Fun Snack Recipes Your Kids Will Love after School

When kids come home from school, they usually want to have a snack. Of course, if they are choosing the wrong snacks, the fat and calories can add up. Instead of allowing your kids to eat on processed snacks, it is important to have plenty of snacks around that are healthy for them. This way they can enjoy a nice snack that is healthy for them. If you are not sure what kind of snacks to make, here are a few great snack ideas and fun snack recipes that your kids are sure to love when they get home from school each day.

Peanut Butter and Jelly

More than likely you enjoyed eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches when you were a kid. Turns out, this is a healthy snack for your kids. Instead of white bread, choose whole wheat bread, a whole wheat pit, or even a whole wheat English muffin. Go with all natural preserves or sugar free jellies. If your kids do not like peanut butter, substitute it with some cream cheese instead, which adds some protein to the mix.

Veggies and Dip

Another great option for after school snacks is veggies and dip. It is a good idea to chop up veggies and place them in serving size bags so your kids can grab them and go. Making healthy snacks easily accessible helps to make sure you keep kids from grabbing unhealthy snacks instead. Carrots, baby tomatoes, celery, peppers, and broccoli are all great veggie options. Make a healthy dip with fat free plain yogurt and a package of ranch dipping sauce.

Fruit and Cheese

Fruit and cheese is always a great combination, as long as you are going with low fat cheeses. Consider serving up apples and cheddar together for your kids after school. Laughing Cow low fat cheeses are great with apples as well. String cheese paired with a bowl of grapes or other fruit also is a healthy snack option they will enjoy after a big school day. Once again, it is a great idea to put fruits in serving size portions so kids can simply grab them and you do not have to do so much work when they get home from school as well. Make an easy dip for fruit by combining vanilla yogurt with cream cheese or by combining vanilla yogurt with marshmallow for a sweet dip that tastes amazing with the fruits.
